How Ocusell Keeps The MLS At The Center Of The Listing

The Ocusell platform was created to streamline the listing process for both brokers (and their agents) and MLSs. We built Ocusell to make sure the MLS is still the foundation of how listings operate within the industry, so the business rules and regulations that protect everyone involved in the transaction stay central to how homes are bought and sold.

With the MLS as the foundation, we designed the listing process so that it fits the needs of agents, brokers, and listings admins. We knew no two brokerages have the same workflow, so from our first design concept and every step since, we made sure Ocusell can be adapted to the different needs of brokerages of any flavor. By threading the needle between broker needs and MLS standards, the Ocusell listing platform provides infrastructure so both sides can stay relevant as real estate continues to evolve.

Here’s a few examples of how it works in action:

We start with the MLS

Every listing in Ocusell starts with the agent choosing the MLS(s) where the property is going to be published. It isn’t possible to use Ocusell unless at least one MLS is selected. From there all the business rules that we have built into the system are validated in real time. If an agent has selected multiple MLSs with differing business rules, the add/edit form will alert them as they fill out the fields. This is made possible by our customized implementation process which builds a unique interface for each MLS.

More data, from more sources

Until now new construction listings have often been left off of the MLS, but with our Ocusell Build platform it is easy for homebuilders to sync their system with multiple MLSs without having to re-enter the data for each platform. These properties can now show up in search results and contribute to the data and market statistics that inform MLS reporting. We’ve strengthened the role of the MLS without adding any extra work for their staff.

We’ve also made it easier to incorporate new construction property into the MLS. Our “clone” feature lets an agent create a copy of a listing so they don’t have to start from scratch each time (if needed, they can manually adjust any details). For new construction communities with homes that are very similar, and have practically the same street address, agents can create all the listings in a matter of minutes.

This same technology works with platforms where agents list Preview or Coming Soon properties. This way an agent only has to upload the listing once and all the information will transfer to the MLS without going public until the agent makes the listing Active. Data that would not have made it into the MLS database can now be included as part of their market analysis.

MLS-Centric, Broker-Friendly Workflow

MLSs serve several groups: brokers, agents, and also the consumer. We made sure our platforms, and the optional add-ons, serve the needs of all three audiences. Brokers can have their finger on the pulse of how all their listings are performing and agents or listing admins can get properties on the MLS much more quickly. Agents even use Ocusell during listing consultations so they can show clients they are more knowledgeable about the property compared to other agents. Our industry is emerging from an era where technology tended to be silo’d and served only one group or one part of the transaction process. As technology has matured, so has the ability of real estate software to accomplish multiple outcomes.
